​Truth and Consequences: The town of Truth or Consequences, NM, is in the southern part of the state.  Originally named Hot Springs, it got its name in a contest run by the eponymous 1950s game show.  Like much of New Mexico, T or C has fallen on hard times.  Its downtown is mostly composed of empty storefronts, interspersed with second-hand stores.  While its hot springs still flow, the run-down motels that serve as lodgings for visitors fail to attract the tourists that once supported the town.  Most recently, it has pinned its hopes on Spaceport America, but those hopes have been mostly unrealized.  The truth is that there are consequences for small towns that depend on the tourist industry.  I shot these photographs with high-speed film, creating a graininess that evokes the melancholy of the town.
